The primary target of Tennysons poetry Essay Example for Free

The primary target of Tennysons poetry Essay â€Å"The primary target of Tennyson’s poetry is Victorian greed and materialism. † How far do you agree with this view of Tennyson’s poetry? In your answer you should either refer to two or three poems in detail or range more widely through the whole selection. Tennyson throughout his poetry focuses on greed and materialism when reflecting on the changing times in society and the growing of ‘the work of the days of man’ and the golden age. He does this particularly in ‘Maud’ In ‘Morte D’Arthur’. ‘Maud’ is poem written about a man who loses his father after he is murdered by a business friend . Tennyson uses this as the basis to explore the mental instability of the speaker which he uses to explore other issues such as Victorian greed and materialism. In ‘Maud’ Tennyson undertakes a psychological exploration of the speaker ‘maud’ who seems to have gone mad after losing his father . He focuses on the greed and materialism on how the speaker’s father was unjustly killed by his fellow business partner . He says : ‘ gorged scheme that had left us flaccid and drain’d’ This literally translates as sucked us dry which shows how selfish the business partner was so on the whole reflects society’s greediness . Then Tennyson goes on to criticise the actions of society and you can see this clearly when the speaker talks of how ‘blessings of Peace? ’ have been ‘made into a curse’ by society. This implies to the reader that society has become so corrupt , greedy and selfish that even positive things , ‘blessings’ have been turned into bad things ‘curses’. The speaker muses on how no there are ‘pickpockets’ , ‘each hand lusting for all that is not its own’. There is now so much greediness in society that people want to own what is not theirs. Throughout the Victorian era there was a radical change with the advance of science for example Darwin and his evolution of species which went against Religious beliefs that God created Everything . Tennyson having strong faith in Christianity highlights how this new age ‘the golden age’ despite it’s breakthroughs poses danger to society and humanity through the speaker. The speaker says ‘these are the days of advance , the works of men of mind,’ . Tennyson using satire because he is mocking the idea of the works of men are and can be better than the the works of God and the substation of works ‘of God ’ with ‘of men of mind’ makes this very obvious to the reader.

Identifying Hazards In The Workplace Construction Essay

Identifying Hazards In The Workplace Construction Essay Historically, health and safety laws in the United Kingdom (UK), for example, The Factories Act 1961, and The Offices, Shops and Railways Premises Act 1963, were applied to definite operations, and were planned prescriptively to correct acknowledged wrongs. (Ridley and  Channing, 2008: 42)   Health and safety legislation usually developed a section at a time, and each section covered an exacting class of person and was not of a reliable manner.   (Ridley and  Channing, 2008: 42) Legislation only useful to those workers who were on site, thus if the job required working away from their designated area, as a contractor, there was no legislation in place to cover these employees. Separate legislation with variations and methods of enforcement would apply to a factory, an office, a mine, or a quarry. There was certainly a need for change within the legislation in order to offer safety to employees. In May 1970, Labour Secretary of State for Employment and efficiency,  Barbara  Castle, appointed a Committee of Inquiry to undertake a wide-ranging review of health and safety within the  UK.  Lord  Robens  chaired the committee and its remit was to examine critically the provision made for the health and safety of persons in the course of their employment, furthermore to consider whether changes were needed and, if so, of what type. Three main factors prompted this enquiry: There had not been a comprehensive review of health and safety as a whole.   (Hutter, 2004: 21) There were disturbing levels of accident and disease at work, which were felt to be in need of scrutiny. (Hutter, 2004: 21) The traditional regulatory approach that is, an approach based on an extensive system of detailed statutory provisions administered and enforced by government departments and local authorities, was considered to be in need of examination. (Hutter, 2004: 22) The main criticism levelled by the committee was that administrative jurisdictions were fragmented; there were too many incongruent agencies responsible to government departments, enforcing excessive legislation. It was proposed that a more integrated system needed to be created to increase the effectiveness of the states contribution to safety and health at work. Moreover, it was argued that [r]eform should be aimed at creating the conditions for more effective self regulation by employers and employees jointly (Hutter, 2004: 22). The intentions being to make those involved understand that health and safety matters are their own concerns and not just the remit of external agencies. In essence, Health and Safety was moving forward from a regulatory process to a self-regulating process. The recommendations of the Robens Committee subsequently led to the introduction of the Health and Safety at Work Act (HASWA) 1974, which is the principal enabling legislation for the  UK; it imposes duties on employers, employees, and manufactures. Training is specifically mentioned within section 2 (2) HASWA 1974 and states that In addition to other requirements it is the employers duty to ensure the provision of such information, instruction, training and supervision as is necessary to ensure, so far as is reasonably practicable, the health and safety at work of his employees.  (Tolleys, 2009: 1467)  Ã‚  This does not place a duty on an employer to provide training, however, it recognises that having carried out generic and specific risk assessments of the working area; an employer may well believe that training would be an effective measure of control of skills, knowledge, and competency. capability is not specially recognized within HASWA 1974 with exemption to an suggestion in section 19 (1) which refers to the appointment of inspectors of health and safety. This relates to such person having appropriate qualifications as it thinks necessary for carrying into effect the relevant statutory necessities within its field of responsibility  (Tolleys, 2009: 1466). Introduction In this assignment researcher have explained health and safety acts and also have explained the safe working environment in the work place. Researcher have explained the electrical hazards, fire hazards, emergency evacuation plan, working smoking policy, hygiene facilities, first aid and manual handling Electrical hazards   Electricity is a very useful source of energy but it is very dangerous. Circuit Overload Protection Overloading electrical circuits are very risky and should not be legal at any time. All systems shall be installed as designed by the manufacturer and in order with the National Electrical Code and restrained electrical codes. Each electrical circuit breaker or fuse should be clearly evident with the name of the electrical application served by that circuit. Breaker or fuse categorization allows for interval of the electrical current to the circuit in the event of a disaster due to electrical shock or defective appliances, and assists in classification of circuit overloading. Breaker boxes should be accessible at all times. Use of Extension Cords Conservatory cords used with moveable tools should be of the three-wire type with three spike plugs, excluding when using double insulated tools. Plugs should be nonconductive. The user should make sure that the wire sizes of addition cords are competent of treatment the load without heating and this should be checked upon before starting the job.   Numerous plug-on attachments on addition cords shall not be used.   Make sure that all addition cords are useful and free of uncovered wiring and spillages, unravelled area.   Extension cords must only be used for temporary purposes, not for permanent installation. Where there is a undying need for an electrical vent, one should be installed. While in use, the addition cord must not be located in such a manner as to present a nimble hazard or under rugs, carpets or chair mats.   Addition cords must not be placed where they may be injured by foot or traffic.   Addition cords must not be run through holes in walls or ceilings or t hrough doorways or windows. Electrical Grounding All electrically operated appliances shall be powerfully stranded. Electrically operated appliances may be stranded in the subsequent ways:  Ã‚     Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  By an accepted grounding type accessory plug, provided the ground wire is attached to the metal inclusion of the electrical conductors and to the plug associated to the tools cord. The ground wire must be attached at all times while the tools are associated to the power supply.  Ã‚     Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  By means of training instrumentalist run with the power conductors in the stretchy cord linked to the piece of equipment. The ground association must always make contact with the electrical vent ground while the piece of equipment is linked to the power supply conductors.  Ã‚   http://www.sefsc.noaa.gov/HTMLdocs/electricalsafe.htm Fire hazards Fire safety becomes everyones job at a worksite. Employers should educate workers about fire hazards in the workplace and about what to do in a fire crisis. This plan should sketch the coursework of key items in the event of a fire and supply an evacuation plan for workers on the site and wee to locate in a safe a secure place away from the building. In the assembly industry, a fire plan should be set up at the beforehand to start any destruction job. Building Fire Exits Every workplace building must have at least two means of flee distant from each other to be used in a fire emergency. Fire doors must not be blocked or locked to stop emergency use when employees are within the buildings. Postponed opening of fire doors is legal when an agreed alarm system is incorporated into the fire door design. Exit routes from buildings must be clear and free of obstructions and appropriately marked with signs designating exits from the building. Portable Fire Extinguishers Each workplace building must have a full balance of the proper type of fire extinguisher for the fire hazards present. Employees expected or predictable to use fire extinguishers must be instructed on the hazards of fighting fire, how to appropriately manage the fire extinguishers available, and what actions to follow in alerting others to the fire emergency. Only permitted fire extinguishers are allowed to be used in workplaces, and they must be kept in good functional situation. Appropriate protection and assessment of this equipment is compulsory of each employer. Where the employer wishes to abandon employees instead of having them fight small fires there must be written emergency plans and employee training for appropriate migration. Emergency Evacuation Planning Each employer needs to have a written emergency action plan for evacuation of employees which describes the routes to use and procedures to be followed by employees. Also procedures for accounting for all evacuated employees must be part of the plan. The written plan must be available for employee review. Where needed, special actions for helping actually impaired employees must be addressed in the plan; also, the plan must include events for those employees who must remain behind for the time being to shut down crucial plant equipment before they evacuate. Fire Prevention Plan Employers need to execute a written fire avoidance plan to complement the fire evacuation plan to minimize the frequency of evacuation. Stopping unnecessary fires from happening is the most resourceful way to grip them. The written plan shall be available for employee review. http://www.pp.okstate.edu/ehs/training/OSHAFIRE.HTM Workplace smoking policy An employer in discussion with the employees lays down rules and actions that govern some or all of the following: Functioning ethics that guide the smoking policy such as the rights of non-smokers and obedience with any legislation that relates to smoking in the work place. The places and times that smoking is allowed, if it is allowed at all.   The aim should be to certify the abolition or minimisation of smoke disclosure to employees where they work.   Employees should also have the option of smoke free rest areas, and it is up to the employer to decide on condition for smokers, such as smoking rooms. The schedule for visitors or members of the public that enter a workplace. Contractual obligations or conditions such as time allowed for smoking breaks, consequences of collapse to abide by with the policy. Support for smokers that wish to quit such as smoking termination services. Technical improvements such as improved ventilation where smoking is approved. The approach to be adopted for employees with higher health risk such as people with asthma or pregnant women. Working practices, such as roistering, that reduces employees exposure to smoke. Details of how the smoking policy may change over time it could become more uncertain after an early adjustment period. Procedures for reviewing the policy, ensuring obedience and resolving disputes. Hygiene facilities    Providing hygienic washroom facilities in the workplace are not only enviable, its a legal requirement for  all  UK  commercial grounds. ABC Hygiene is an experienced hygiene services company that understands your business legal desires in this area as well as the need to current a concerned and specialized image to both staff and consumers. The Company provides all the tools and services your business needs to sustain clean and fresh washroom facilities; ensuring that you can prudently manage everything from sanitary waste, soap dispensers, air fresheners, hand-drying and sanitising, right through to vending machines. This breadth of service is superior by the companys genuine promise to deliver a high-quality, trustworthy service, duly provided through its team of friendly, yet specialized  persons. First aid People at work can go through injury or sudden illness. It is most important that employers have made schedule to ensure their employees receive abrupt concentration if they are injured or taken ill at work. This site provides information on all aspects of first aid at work and will be of interest to employers, employees, first aiders and training organizations transversely all industry sectors. The Health and Safety First-Aid Regulations 1981 require employers to provide tools, services and personnel to enable first aid to be given to employees if they are injured or become ill at work. These Regulations concern to all workplaces including those with five or fewer employees and to the self-employed. Detailed information can be found in the Approved Code of training and Guidance:  Ã‚  The Health and Safety First-Aid Regulations 1981 L74. What will be depended on the conditions in the workplace, this includes whether skilled first aiders are needed, what should be integrated in a first aid box and if a first aid room is needed. Employers should carry out an judgment of first aid needs to conclude this. The Regulations do not place a legal responsibility on employers to make first aid stipulation for non-employees such as the public or children in schools. However, HSE strongly recommends that non-employees are integrated in a first aid needs evaluation and that condition is made for them. Risk assessment consists of a detailed risk assessment on a wet/dry heat area within a spa. It will incorporate what a risk assessment is and what it is for, also a risk assessment procedure and the possible dangers that could occur in the work place if the health and safety rules are not followed. A essential knowledge of health and safety is required before a risk assessment can be completed. The Health and safety at work act is a set of rules which are set to care for the employees, employers, clients and the business itself from any accidents or illness.   The health and safety act rules are there for both employees and employers to abide by to make sure the safety of anyone i.e. clients, delivery people, that may have anything to do with the workplace. A risk assessment is a major part of health and safety for any business as this will help stop accidents and serious harm to all worried.   A risk assessment is a careful examination of what could cause harm to people within the work place.   It is used to prioritise any possible dangers, to assess how dangerous they are and how to stop them. Huges P (2007) pg 67 states risk assessment methods are used to make a decision on priorities and to set objectives for eliminating hazards and falling risk. Businesslink.gov.uk (2008) states that you are not expected to reduce all risk, but you are compulsory to defend people as far as sensibly practical.   To perform a enough risk assessment there are five steps to make sure a thorough test has been done.   The first being to be familiar with serious hazards from the minor ones and then once these have been recognized, the second step would be to make a decision on who these may influence this will include anyone who has anything to do with the business.   The third element of a risk assessment is to appraise the level of the risks that have been found. A qualitative appraisal can be done in most cases which would enable the evaluator to grade them as medium, high or low depending on the potential danger it could cause.   The fourth step would be to record your findings and then start to put into place methods of avoidance. Lastly the risk assessment should be reviewed on a regular basis. Overall the risk assessment should consi st of identifying the hazards, establishing who they may influence, assess the risks; record the result and the make sure that regular checks are kept and recorded up to date.   Keeping a record will help to observe the health and safety within a business.

In An Oldsters Mind :: essays research papers

In An Oldster's Mind Crowd and noise always interrupt my mind in the TV room. I desire someone to take me back to my private room. I want to be alone and think about my personal things. I appreciate that a nurse helping me to go back my room. Along the hallway, I look straight forward and do nothing like a plant. What factor causes the plant to move? I turn my head as if I have seen my friend, a close friend passing my wheelchair. What I see at the back actually is a nurse who is frightened by my active and rare movement. When I look back again, the nurse has a already fallen onto the floor. Screaming and nervousness spread out all over the floor. Bang! The door close behind me. Staring at the mirror, I used to count the number of wrinkles on my forehead. They remind me the number of inerasable past events that I had involved in. Rapidly, I climb on the bed. Bed is my lovely place. I call it, the gymnasium. I used to roll on my bed. Whenever my mind cannot function or do not know what should do next, I would roll, roll and roll. This time is unusual because my head is crashing the fence of the bed. It is not much painful. The crash stops me rolling but starts me getting recall of my friend, Angus. At a time, my brain is working like a computer loading an enormous file. A picture is appearing - a guy is walking towards me and gives me his saber. The saber is sharp and shiny, it reflects an intensive light to my eyes. My eyes shutter reluctantly. I see my school, my night school. I am glad that this recall is not being erased. I remember that Angus sat beside me. "Do your best. You are new to this subject. Everything here is brand new to you. Don't worry. Just try your best." Angus held up his head by his hand and murmured. His eyes were staring on the page of a novel, but I knew he was talking to me. In my class Angus was the only one who retook the course. Everyday I attended the course because I would get the mark of attendance. The teacher's voice was gradually fading out until no words I could hear. Everyday the whole course started and finished like that. At home I used to turn on the radio. Loneliness was my hatred. The louder the radio, the more it comforted me.

Genophilosophy Essay -- Philosophy Philosophical Essays

Genophilosophy ABSTRACT: Contemporary progress in life sciences, particularly in genetic engineering, is changing our concept of "human being" and a whole series of other philosophical and common notions. The conventional idea of "subject" will no longer be the final reference for philosophical thinking, since even the subject qua biological or psychological structure will enjoy a high degree of unpredictability. The results of gene technology require reinterpreting such concepts as reproduction, individuality, history, freedom and subjectivity. This paper focuses on the question of freedom, where freedom means the capacity to deliberate and choose between different alternatives of action. We hold that the issue of freedom is relevant for genetics. Considering that genes can "decide" between alternatives, it is possible to speak about the freedom of genes, at least in a metaphoric sense. It has been suggested that genes are "more free" than human beings because they encoded us. The human genome pro gram thus helps us to understand what kind of structures human beings are dependent upon. The main question that we address in this paper concerns the entire human genome project and all its implications including the functions and effects of each gene, the possibility of technological manipulation, what kind of freedom, history, and "human being" will eventually "survive." Recent developments in molecular biology and genetic engineering are going to change our human being concept and a whole series of other philosophical and common notions, such as "knowledge", "subject", "self", "history", "past", "science", "ethics", etc. The traditional idea of "subject" won't be any more the only final reference of philosophical thinking, si... ...philosophy ? a higher speed mutant of ancient type philosophy ? should prevail with a main task to investigate and understand the consequences of these new technologies and to represent it in scientific, social and ethical debates. Similar to when Kant urged philosophers in the eighteenth century to turn towards humans, now there is a need to turn towards genes. In continuous dialogs and partnerships with life scientists and politicians, philosophers have to develop new merits of freedom, person and evolution and to investigate the possible ways of improving human life on earth. We have to remember on the pragmatic adage, if philosophy and science lack social fruits in the long run, then it does not deserve the attention of the society. On the other hand, if the science and society do not open up for philosophical deliberations, it can have monstrous consequences.

Is Collusion Possible :: essays papers

Is Collusion Possible 1. Introduction. In this essay I would discuss the price and output determination under the one essential type of imperfect competition markets- oligopoly. Inter-firm interactions in imperfect markets take many forms. Oligopoly theory, those name refers to "competition among the few", lack unambiguous results of these interactions unlike monopoly and perfect competition. There is a variety of results derived from many different behavioural assumptions, with each specific model potentially relevant to certain real-world situations, but not to others. Here we are interested in the strategic nature of competition between firms. "Strategic" means the dependence of each person's proper choice of action on what he expects the other to do. A strategic move of a person influences the other person's choice, the other person's expectation of how would this particular person behave, in order to produce the favourable outcome for him. 2. Two types of behaviour (Collusive and non-collusive). Models of enterprise decision making in oligopoly derive their special features from the fact that firms in an oligopolistic industry are interdependent and this is realised by these firms. When there are only a few producers, the reaction of rivals should be taken into account. There are two broad approaches to this problem. First, oligopolists may be thought of as agreeing to co-operate in setting price and quantity. This would be the Collusive model. According to this model, firms agree to act together in their price and quantity decisions and this would to exactly the same outcome as would have been under monopoly. Thus the explicit or co-operative collusion or Cartel would take place. Second approach of the oligopoly analysis is based on the assumption that firms do not co-operate, but make their decisions on the basis of guesses, expectations, about the variables to which their competitors are reaching and about the form and the nature of the reactions in question. The Non-collusive behaviour deals with this model. Here, though in equilibrium the expectations of each firm about the reactions of rivals are realised, the parties never actually communicate directly with each other about their likely reactions. The extreme case of this can even imply competitive behaviour. Such a situation is much less profitable for firms than the one in which they share the monopolistic profit. The purpose of this paper is to analyse the case of the possibility of collusion between firms in order to reach the monopolistic profits for the industry, assuming that they do not co-operate with each other.

Lunar Phases Essay

Lunar phase (or Moon phase) refers to the appearance of the illuminated portion of the Moon as seen by an observer, usually on Earth. The lunar phases vary cyclically as the Moon orbits the Earth, according to the changing relative positions of the Earth, Moon, and Sun. One half of the lunar surface is always illuminated by the Sun (except during lunar eclipses), and is hence bright, but the portion of the illuminated hemisphere that is visible to an observer can vary from 100% (full moon) to 0% (new moon). The boundary between the illuminated and unilluminated hemispheres is called the terminator. The lunar effect is a theory which overlaps into sociology, psychology and physiology suggesting that there is correlation between specific stages of the Earth’s lunar cycle and deviant behavior in human beings. It is a pseudoscientific theory, however. The claims of a correlation of lunar phases to human behavior do not hold up under scientific scrutiny. Over the past 30 years, even more evidence has emerged to stress that this is pseudoscience. The theory is sometimes also referred to as the Transylvanian hypothesis or the Transylvanian effect in scholarly literature. The notion behind the lunar effect has fascinated many behavioralists and warranted many experiments and studies. Most experiments, however, have found no correlation between the variables and, thus, refuted the theory. There are some studies which have results the researchers claimed supported the theory. For example, a study concluded that schizophrenic patients show signs of deterioration, in terms of quality of life and mental well-being, during the time of a full moon. Some researchers have claimed that there were strong positive correlations between physiological changes such as induced seizures in epileptic and non-epileptic people and the full moon period in studies they conducted. One study concluded that a statistically significant correlations for gastrointest inal bleeding among males in particular during this time. However, most of these findings are based on small-scale research. On the other hand, the majority of scientific research seems to refute the theory of the lunar effect. Psychologist Ivan Kelly of the University of Saskatchewan (with James Rotton and Roger Culver) did a meta-analysis of thirty-seven studies that examined relationships between the moon’s four phases and human behavior. The meta-analysis revealed no correlation. They also checked twenty-three studies that had claimed to show correlation, and nearly half of these contained at least one statistical error. Kelly, Ronnie Martins, and Donald Saklofske evaluated twenty-one studies of births related to the phase of the moon and found no correlation. The scientific data â€Å"supports the view that there is no causal relationship between lunar phenomena and human behavior†. (Diefendorf 2007:113)A study of 4,190 suicides in Sacramento County over a 58-year period showed no correlation to the phase of the moon. A 1992 paper by Martens, Kelly, and Saklofske reviewed twenty studies examining correlations between Moon phase and suicides. Most of the twenty studies found no correlation and the ones that did report positive results were inconsistent with each other. Psychologist Arnold Lieber of the University of Miami reported a correlation of homicides in Dade County to moon phase, but later analysis of the data — including that by astronomer George Abell — did not support Lieber’s conclusions. Kelly, Rotton, and Culver point out that Lieber and Carolyn Sherin used inappropriate and misleading statistical procedures. When more appropriate tests were done, no correlation between homicides and the phase of the moon was found.Astronomer Daniel Caton analyzed 70,000,000 birth records from the National Center for Health Statistics, and no correlation between births and moon phase was found. Kelly, Rotton, and Culver report that Caton examined 45,000,000 births and found a weak peak around the third quarter phase of the Moon, while the full moon and new moon phases had an average or slightly below average birth rate.In 1959 Walter and Abraham Menaker reported that a study of over 510,000 births in New York City showed a 1 percent increase in births in the two weeks after full moon. In 1967 Walter Menaker studied another 500,000 births in New York City, and this time he found a 1 percent increase in births in the two-week period centered on the full moon. In 1973 M. Osley, D. Summerville, and L. B. Borst studied another 500,000 births in New York City, and they reported a 1 percent increase in births before the full moon. In 1957 Rippmann analyzed 9,551 births in Danville, PA and found no correlation between the birth rate and the phase of the moon.A fifteen month study in Jacksonville, Florida also revealed at least no lunar effect on crime and hospital room admittance. In particular:There was no increase in crime on full moons, according to a statistical analysis by the Jacksonville Police Department. Five of the fifteen full moons had a higher than average rate of crime while ten full moons had a lower than average rate. The higher-than-average days were during warmer months. Statistical analysis of visits to Shands Hospital emergency room showed no full moon effect. Emergency room admissions consistently have more to do with the day of the week. The word â€Å"menstruation† is etymologically related to â€Å"moon†. The terms â€Å"menstruation† and â€Å"menses† are derived from the Latin mensis (month), which in turn relates to the Greek mene (moon) and to the roots of the English words month and moon—reflecting the fact that the moon also takes close to 28 days to revolve around the Earth (actually 27.32 days). The synodical lunar month, the period between two new moons (or full moons), is 29.53 days long. Some authors believe women in traditional societies without nightlighting ovulated with the full moon and menstruated with the new moon. A few studies in both humans and animals have found that artificial light at night does influence the menstrual cycle in humans and the estrus cycle in mice (cycles are more regular in the absence of artificial light at night), though none have demonstrated the synchronization of women’s menstrual cycles with the lunar cycle. One author has suggested that sensitivity of women’s cycles to nightlighting is caused by nutritional deficiencies of certain vitamins and minerals. Other animals’ menstrual cycles may be greatly different from lunar cycles: while the average cycle length in orangutans is the same as in humans—28 days—the average for chimpanzees is 35 days. Some take this as evidence that the average length of humans’ cycle is most likely a coincidence.

Can Adversity Do Anything but Harm Essay

Is adversity a road block in your life? Your subconscious may be part of the problem. Adversity can easily hold you back from being successful in business, relationships, career and the enjoyment of life itself. There’s no doubt that everyone encounters some form of adversity in their life. Some even face this condition very early in life or at a young age. However, the failure to take action early on will only intensify the negativity. So whats the secret to virtually eliminating adversity in your life? This certainly deserves an answer that makes sense for anyone. And believe it or not, it start’s with you. If you believe you’ve never encountered adversity or that you never will, I hate to burst your bubble. However, there is no human being nor creature for that matter that has not been in the path of adversity or is maybe facing an adverse situation right at this moment. Do you think that the zebras grazing on the plains of the Serengeti in Africa don’t face adversity every day of their lives? It may not be adverse fortune, but it is stressful and continually a difficult challenge for them to stay alive. Adversity or â€Å"the lions† who prey on them are what lie in their path. Even if a single zebra is one of the lucky ones to live their life in a zoo, instinctively, they are always cautious and wondering where that next lion will be coming from. Yet, are they truly more fortunate to be living in a zoo or are they being removed from everything else that life has to offer them? -Roaming the plains, exploring and expanding their territory, raising their young, learning survival skills so future generations will be more prepared? Does it instinctively and consciously harm them? While people are not generally being hunted like the zebra, we do encounter the face of adversity in many sectors of our daily lives. At work, sometimes at home, from friends, acquaintances, associates, fellow workers, bosses, and even in public places such as restaurants and department stores. How you interpret, decipher and sub-consciously handle the adversity when it’s coming at you determines how you move forward -or don’t. While we all encounter adversity, there are some who seem to encounter more than others. For some, adversity begins on a low and later grows to immeasurable levels. Those entering the workforce for the first time can face tremendous amounts of adversity. However, those who have trained their sub-conscious can handle anything thrown at them. Others will fall prey. In one of my recent newsletters that I send to my Sales Associates every week, I talked about how in life you need to â€Å"do it right†. And what I mean by that, is staying focused on what you need to do to survive and thrive in life and career. Unless your name is Tarzan, and you live in a hut and eat fruit from trees, you’re part of modern society and civilization. And let’s not kid ourselves, life is a challenge. However, depending on how you tackle each and every day determines the level of adversity you absorb. I don’t believe as a person we can completely eliminate or rid ourselves of adversity, but 99% of it can be easily dealt with by teaching your sub-conscious how to react. I believe everyone has a blueprint for how they achieve success and avoid adverse situations. The life of a successful and accomplished person understands the mind-set they require to continually advance themselves. You too can understand the necessary mind-set that will set you to new heights. This may sound silly or rather a simple technique. But it works so effectively, you may even surprise yourself. Your mind also brings forth it’s best results when it’s resting on positive thoughts. So try this every single night just before bed. Only if you challenge yourself will you start to see results. A successful person does certain things each and day that brings them more and more success and wealth. You need to unveil your blueprint so you too can understand your failures and/or success. Have you ever wondered how certain people can prevail in even the worst of situations? Is it constant faith and continual motivation that makes them thrive? I believe a little bit of faith goes a very long way and certainly motivating yourself is a necessity. However, start by training your sub-conscious and you’ll have amazing results. I also find it’s advantageous when you take a disappointment in your life and then use that to motivate yourself to a greater degree of success. Many â€Å"fear† embarking on a new endeavor, a new career and even a relationship simply because they fear of failure. This is the one characteristic that keeps some from striding forward. Again, it’s something that starts with the sub-conscious. If you fell off the horse and fear getting back on it again, you’ll never become a good rider. Challenging adversity and teaching your sub-conscious will keep you working hard to perfect your riding skills no matter how many times you fall off. That which could potentially bring your dreams to conviction, are often drowned in the fear of failing. Fear is everyone’s worst enemy. However, taking a â€Å"leap† because of faith and belief in yourself (teaching your sub-conscious) is what will help you achieve your goals and even surpass them beyond expectations. Nothing in life comes without a little risk and some good old fashioned hard work. Just as long as you can overcome the fear, and are willing to teach your mind. Look at Henry Ford (Founder of Ford Automobiles). Though he was Chief engineer at Thomas Edison’s famous Edison Illuminating company he did not have a formal education in mechanical engineering. He grew up on a farm and got interested in mechanics at a young age tinkering with and fixing things like peoples watches. He built his first steam engine at 15. So how did he become so successful in such a short time? How did he overcome any fears he may of had because of a lack of education and skills? First he developed practical hands on knowledge of basic mechanical operations like watches and steam engines. Personally, I self taught myself about things just by taking them apart and putting them back together again. I also have a Father who was mechanically inclined so I gained knowledge just by watching him work on car engines, boilers, etc. For Ford, he had an idea and a vision on which to expand on. So he used a powerful tool at his hands. He believed in himself because he had the solution and his sub-conscious was prepared with a plan and the means to carry it forward. People listened because he had a drive to succeed and everyone wanted a part of it. So he hired people with minimal skills and offered them high wages to fine tune the concepts and make it work. He put people to work and paid them on beliefs of what the future held for the Company. The power of persuasion some may call it. Henry Ford’s fully story is certainly one to learn from. Dale Carnegie also said it very eloquently in his books which are a must read for anyone looking to succeed. Another area that defies adversity is to have passion and be passionate about what you do for a living or strive to be. For example, I feel very confident in representing the services and solutions that my companies provide. I greatly believe that the services that I represent are unique for they address the needs of every business owner. Such as reducing expenses and improving the bottom line while delivering quality of service. Having a product and service I’m proud of and believe in, allows me to remain confident, even if faced with opposition or adversity. I feel secure in knowing that my clients will be taken care of to a great degree. In my opinion, it is vital to believe in what you are offering, selling or marketing. This projects belief which provides you with a great chance of flourishing. When you have true convictions and develop your mind-set you set yourself up for amazing results. Always keep your faith, be optimistic, believe in yourself and what you stand behind and you’ll never regret a day. Be respectful of other peoples time, have integrity and manage your time effectively. Use your skills and be creative and challenge your fears. These are all part of a daily ritual that successful people carry out each and every day of their lives. If you have adversity at your door step, it’s time to stand up and make a change. Start each day with a set of realistic goals and accomplish them. But keep within your boundaries otherwise you’ll face further adversity. Emerson, Ralph Waldo once stated: â€Å"Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could. Some blunders and absurdities no doubt crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day; begin it well and serenely and with too high a spirit to be encumbered with your old nonsense. † This quote depicts a quality one should acquire in order to ascertain their dreams. They must learn from any mistakes they may have made in the past and strongly push forward in what they believe in no matter the opposition. Many will give up easily in the face of adversity and never do anything about it. Even some who are given the tools to make change. For I truly believe it is how we rise from the fall that dictates our success to a great degree. Most importantly, never criticize another. Take this simple test and see if you can last. Starting tomorrow and for seven days, try not to criticize anyone nor anything. This includes not speaking negatively about anything nor anyone. See how far you get, then drop me a comment. Lincoln once stated: â€Å"Don’t criticize them they are just what we would be under similar circumstances. † Michael Sweitzer is an Expert Author in business development solutions.
